The Sentina natural reserve
The sentina natural reserve is the smaller protected area of Marche region but it is of great value from an environmental point of view. The Sentina is a 180 hectars landscape of water and sand, located in the Commune of San Benedetto del Tronto, between the residential area of Porto d’Ascoli northward and the Tronto river southward.
The Sentina natural reserve is made up of unique environments, such as sand expanses, humid areas behind sand dunes and brackish prairie whose feature is a copious and particular flora that by now has disappeared in the whole Adriatic coast because of anthropization.
This reserve is very important for the migratory avifauna, because the Sentina is the only coastal area where birds can stop while travelling from the humid areas of the Po delta and those of the Gargano.
“Naturalmente Sentina” is the perfect slogan for a programme of events and activities concerning our precious natural reserve. For the first time from its recent institution, the reserve is organizing several interesting initiatives for a various audience, children or adults, experts of naturalism or people that want to approach this world for the first time.
